The BAOWP site was conceived by senior staff at Komodo CMS, to provide a resource for website editors and publishers to learn more about web publishing than simply how to use a web content management system. The scope of the project has grown over time with the support of a number of organizations and individuals into a general web publishing resource.
The content of the BAOWP site has been presented at conferences for the Content Management Professionals (CM Pros), the Design Business Council (DBc), Open Publish and the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA). The site is envisaged to grow over time with content sourced from other web publishing specialists.
The Black Art of Web Publishing website, powered by Komodo CMS, was designed by Smart Works and launched on November 30, 2006.
